TABULA SMARAGDINA HERMETIS

E' vero senza errore e menzogna, e' certo e verissimo.

Cio' che e' in basso e' come cio' che e' in alto, e cio' che e' in alto e' come cio' che e' in basso, per compiere i miracoli della Cosa-Una (di una cosa sola).

Come tutte le cose sono sempre state e venute dall'Uno, per mediazione dell'Uno, cosi' tutte le cose nacquero da questa Cosa Unica per adattamento.

Il Sole ne e' il padre, la Luna ne e' la madre, il Vento l'ha portata nel suo ventre, la Terra e' la sua nutrice.

Il padre di tutto, il Telesma di tutto il mondo e' qui.

La sua potenza e' illimitata se viene convertita in terra.

Separerai la Terra dal Fuoco, il Sottile dal Denso, delicatamente, con grande cura.

Ascende dalla terra al cielo e ridiscende in terra raccogliendo le forze delle cose superiori ed inferiori.

Tu avrai cosi' la gloria di tutto il mondo e fuggira' da te ogni oscurita'.

Qui consiste la Forza forte di ogni Forza, perché vincera' tutto quel che e' sottile e penetrera' tutto quello che e' solido.

Cosi' fu creato il mondo. Da cio' deriveranno innumerevoli adattamenti mirabili il cui segreto sta tutto qui.

Pertanto io fui chiamato Ermete Trismegisto, possessore delle tre parti della Filosofia di tutto il mondo.

Cio' che dissi sull'opera del Sole e' perfetto e completo.

Separabis terram ab igne, subtile a spisso, suaviter cum magno ingenio.

Ascendit a terra in coelum, iterumque descendit in terram, et recipit vim superiorum et inferiorum.

Sic habes gloriam totius mundi. Ideo fugiet a te omnis obscuritas.

Hic est totius fortitudinis fortitudo fortis, quia vincet omnem rem subtilem; omnemque solidam penetrabit: SIC MUNDUS CREATUS EST. Hinc erunt adaptationes mirabiles, quarum modus hic est.

Itaque vocatus sum Hermes Trismegistus, habens tres partes philosophiae totius mundi. Completum est quod dixi de operatione solis.

True, without error, certain and most true: that which is above is as that which is below, and that which is below is as that which is above, to perform the miracles of the One Thing.

And as all things were from One, by the meditation of One, so from this One Thing come all things by adaptation. Its father is the Sun, its mother is the Moon, the wind carried it in its belly, the nurse thereof is the Earth.

It is the father of all perfection and the consummation of the whole world. Its power is integral if it be turned to Earth.

Thou shalt separate the Earth from the Fire, the subtle from the coarse, gently and with much ingenuity. It ascends from Earth to heaven and descends again to Earth, and receives the power of the superiors and the inferiors.

Thus thou hast the glory of the whole world; therefore let all obscurity flee before thee. This is the strong fortitude of all fortitude, overcoming every subtle and penetrating every solid thing. Thus the world was created. Hence are all wonderful adaptations, of which this is the manner.

Therefore I am called Hermes the Thrice Great, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world. That is finished which I have to say concerning the operation of the Sun.
